Nescafe Classico Instant Coffee Review - This Stuff Is Pretty Good

I know instant coffee gets a bad rep. I've always been hesitant to try it as most serious coffee drinkers seem to take the stance they'd rather drink nothing at all rather than drink instant coffee. Starbucks came out with their Via instant coffee, however after trying a sample, I wasn't impressed so never ventured into the instant coffee arena again.

Recently however I was on a ski trip with some friends. I was concerned about my morning coffee so asked my girlfriend if I should bring coffee. She said no, her aunt is a huge coffee drinker so she would bring some. Well first morning of the ski trip I go down to the kitchen to realize she brought instant coffee. Now at first my blood was boiling, how could I possibly go without my morning coffee, and more importantly what kind of serious coffee drinker brings instant coffee?

Well I made myself a cup and to my surprise the stuff wasn't half bad. To be honest I actually kind of enjoyed it. The flavor of Nescafe Classico was flavorful. I wouldn't call it bold, but it was somewhat bold while still being delicate. One interesting thing, not necessarily good or bad is there's a bit of froth to the texture of the coffee, almost like a whipped milk type of consistancy. It's not necessarily good or bad, just different. I think that's the nature of instant coffee since instant coffee is basically coffee which was brewed, flash frozen and scooped up basically. There's also a bit of a malty flavor to it as well, almost like Ovaltine.

Another thing I love about Nescafe or instnat coffee period is it's quick, easy, and no hassle. You don't need coffee filters, you don't need a coffee maker, just a mug and some hot water. Add a teaspoon of Nescafe Classico to a mug, boil some water, pour over Nescafe, stir, and you have coffee. This is a great product to travel with or even just keep at the office.

Now don't get me wrong, this isn't my go to coffee. I still enjoy and probably prefer brewed coffee, however when it's not possible to brew your coffee this is an awesome substitute.

My only gripe about Nescafe is the lack of caffeine. The process of making instant coffee kills off some of the caffeine so where as a regular cup of coffee has anywhere from 100mg to 165mg of caffeine Nescafe and most instant coffees will only have about 65mg of caffeine. Now this is a bad thing in that it doesn't wake you up as much or give you that pick me up as much but there is one positive. Sometimes I like to drink coffee just for the flavor and not the pick me up, or sometimes I may want to socialize and have a couple cups of coffee. Where as regular brewed coffee may have me jittery after a few cups you can sit and sip a good 3-4 cups of Nescafe before feeling that way.

Overall I really enjoy Nescafe coffee. I had never really tried instant as I heard nothing but bad stuff. Sanka is the stuff our grandparnets used to have in their cabinets and I've heard nothing but terrible things about how there's kind of a rotten fruit sweetness to the coffee. None of that with Nescafe. I'd recommend you give it a try and even keep a jar around the house for emergencies.

This stuff is mmm, mmmh good!!!
