In years past e-books were basically crap products sold on eBay for a penny for really no other reason than to help both buyers and sellers boost their feedback. This was before the days of Kindles and other e-readers so an e-book was basically a book on CD you had to read on your computer. The quality of e-books around was kind of crap, much of the ebooks on eBay were nothing but a recipe or two you would buy for a penny.
Finally Kindles and other e-readers became popular and the concept of the e-book changed. Now most all popular titles are available for download and purchase on the Amazon Kindle Marketplace as well as other online stores. E-books are popular due to their lower price, convenience, and overall popularity.
I often hear people on forums and internet marketers and basically just entrepreneurial people looking for that elusive "passive income". What is passive income? Passive income is basically a revenue stream or source of income which requires little to no effort. It's not something you have to show up everyday to earn and ideally it's not something you have to put significant time into on a regular basis to keep comming in.
I hear the word passive income thrown around a lot and it's oftentimes used in conjunction with e-commerce, blogging, as well as other businesses. The truth is there are very few truly passive revenue streams out there. Investments would be one. Sure you need to keep an eye on your investments but it's not something which really requires effort or time. Most other businesses short of just being a silent investor however will require your time and effort on a fairly regular basis.
I hear people refer to blogging as passive income. While it is true that if you start a blog, get a lot of content and get a regular reader base, you will make money off Adsense and other affiliate programs even after you stop writing. That said your regular readers will stop comming back if there's never any new content and even new readers will be hard to come by as one critical aspect of staying on top of search rankings is fresh content. So yes you could give up on a blog and have it produce income for a few months, however that income will slowly over get smaller until it completely dries up.
E-books on the other hand are really potentially a lifelong income stream which requires little to no effort after the initial writing is done.
FOr those of you looking for passive income streams there's plenty of free resources online on youtube, blogs, and forums, however just wanted to mention a great book on Amazon which is FREE to Amazon unlimited members and only $2.99 if you are not is called "The Little Secrets of Passive Income" a great book with some ideas and tips to get you started...
