How To Scale A Business
I know a lot of these make money online Guru's love to hold up Adsense checks for 100K for the month. It's inspiring, it really is. But how many of these guys are actually making that kind of money. And furthermore, among those who truly are, how long did it take them to build their business to that point? From $3 A Day To $500 A Day!!! |
I get a lot of e-mails, Youtube comments, and messages on social media from people who watch my videos and want help on how to get started making 10k a month. That's a great goal to have, but it's easy to get discouraged trying to go from $0 to $10K overnight. Things like that don't happen overnight.
As with any business, it takes time to build it up. But even more importantly, do you even have the skills required currently to do the things you need to do to make that kind of money?
There's a plethora of ways to make money online from Kindle Publishing to Affiliate Marketing, to eCommerce, to Freelancing and many many more. These avenues require you have some skills be it web design, graphic design, affiliate marketing, an understanding of advertising and marketing.
I don't mean to overwhelm you, you don't need to be an expert in all these areas or even necessarily one of these areas, however you should start developing some of these skills. The skills you lack you can hire out to other people through sites like Fiverr.Com. I get a ton of great design work, grahpic design work, and even social marking on Fiverr and it only costs me five bucks!
Start With Small Goals - Grow Your Goals As You Meet Them
Let's use an analogy here. Let's say your in decent shape, but you don't workout, you dont' run, etc. Now let's say you set a goal to run a marathon. Are you going to go out for your first run and attempt to do 26 Miles? Probably not. You may start out going for a mile run. As you do that mile run for a week or two and build your endurance you may up it to a 2 mile run.You may then set a goal to run a 5k race in a few months. You train everyday and work up to the point you can run a 5k. Once you hit that goal and successfully run the 5K, maybe you decide to up your goal to doing 10 miles a run. As you can see here, nobody starts running marathons right off the bat.
Making money online is the same way. If you've never made a penny online, what makes you think your going to start today and make 10k in the next 30 days. Not to say it can't happen, I've seen it happen before, but it's not common, it's not likely, and most of the people who are able to attain a goal like that so quickly probably at the very least have a background and some skills in web design or SEO or something that can really help them bring in that kind of money, but even then it's rare.
I Started Making $3 A Day
How I first got started making money online. I was working at an online ad agency. We made sure banner ad campaigns on Newspapers were delivering at an appropriate rate, ie, if Kung Fu Panda movie wanted to buy 5 million ad impressions over a 6 month campaign, I would ensure those campaigns were being delivered at an even pace, and that they weren't doing a million impressions a day for 6 days. This is when I first became aware you don't need to be a newspaper to have influence, get readers, and sell ads. I realized bloggers online running blogs in their freetime were able to attract readers, attention and traffic and were then able to sell advertising themselves. This got me started investigating sites like Warrior Forum, Black Hat Forum, and other sites where people who made money online gathered to collaborate and share tips, tools, and programs.
I started a blog, yes this very blog your reading right now. This was probably back round 2010. At first the blog didn't have much direction, and honestly wasn't very good. I worked at it, improved my writing, improved my ways of driving traffic and over the years became more focused on what the mission of this blog was. To help people make money online.
I first started running Adsense banners on my site. Reason being it was easy, it's often the first place people new to making money online turn.
Now Adsense is great in that it delivers targeted ads to your readers based upon either their past search history, or the context of your site. The downside however is that unless your driving mega traffic, your never going to make any big money.
That said I started running Adsense on my blog and sure enough after a few weeks I was making $3 a day. Now that may not seem like a ton but to someone like me who was living check to check at the time and often hitting coin star machines a few days before payday to get a few bucks for gas or groceries or bills, $3 a day sounded pretty good to me. That's $90 a month. That's a few tanks of gas, a cellphone bill, a night out with friends.
Making $3 a day took some work but wasn't a huge challenge and wasn't impossible so next I set out to double that earnings. I setup to make $6 a day. It wasn't but a few weeks more before I hit that goal, and upped my goal to $9 a day.
Things started taking off much sooner than I thought and before I knew it I was making some decent money. Now I wasn't making quit your job money, but it was a few hundred bucks a month. Many people need to get an extra part-time job to make that kind of extra money and I was able to do it simply by writing on my own free-time when I chose to do so. Much better than being tied down by a schedule at a part-time job.
Over the years I continued learning about additional ways to make money online be it affiliate advertising, freelancing, writing ebooks. I learned that Adsense did not pay as good as CPA programs like Amazon Associates, Clickbank Products, eBay Partner Network. I learned that if you could drive targeted traffic and display relevant ads for things which interested your audience there was some really money to be gotten.
I also learned how to scale. If I can get one blog making $9 a day, what if I started a second blog and made another $9 a day. Things keep stacking up.
The great thing about starting a blog and growing slowly while learning to expand into other areas of making money is that you have a foundation that will help you with anything you do. If you watch Shark Tank you probably hear Mark Cuban talk about building a tribe. Build a following or group of like minded people and then offer things of value to them and they will buy and you will make money.
By starting a blog, social media profiles, starting a Youtube Channel, your building a tribe of likeminded people you can sell to later.
The point of this whole post is that those of you who set out with no experience and no track record of making money online, but want to set a goal of 10K a month right off the bat are going to find yourselves discouraged. It's going to feel like an impossible goal. On the other hand starting off with smaller more manageable goals is a great way to have success, motivate yourself, and then take your game to the next level.
I started out making $3 a day. Today my business partner and I have a goal of making $500 a day. It's not even necessarily a goal so much as it is a necessity. To make our payroll, pay for our insurance, pay our rent, and our other expenses we need to make $500 a day to keep things going.
Now let me say I'm not just blogging to make that kind of money. I'm doing other things, I have several ecommerce businesses, I'm an eBay seller, an Amazon seller, and in addition to my ecomm businesses I have with my business partner I have other small hustles of my own going like selling Fiverr Gigs, writing ebooks, selling on Etsy, etc. All that stuff doesn't add up to nearly as much as my ecommerce business with my partner does, however I have a solid foundation on which I can break into almost any niche and be successful, drive traffic and be profitable.
Challenge For You
I have a challenge for you guys reading this. Set a goal to make $3 a day. I don't care how you do it, setup a Fiverr profile and start selling, it costs you nothing. Start a free Blogger Blogspot blog and try to make $3 a day in advertising. I think this will serve two important purposes. First, it will show you how challenging it can be to drive traffic, to learn new skills on the web like how to make or place a banner ad for example. At the same time however if you take the time to develope your skillset, you will have sucess and you will hit that $3 a day mark and probably pretty quickly. This will be a huge ego and self esteem boost and you'll set your eyes on doubling that goal. Keep doing this and though I cannot promise you riches, I can promise you will make money, and you will develope some very valuable skillsets that will help you later on down the road regardless of what you choose to do.
Best of luck to you!!!!
