Make Money Selling E-Books On Amazon Kindle Marketplace - 3 Tips

Okay, so I'm constantly getting the question from people is it possible to make money selling ebooks on Amazons Kindle marketplace as well as tips for how to do so successfully.

Rather than give you a long rambling post about the ins and outs of how to do this I'll touch on what I believe to be the 3 most important tips and things to consider if you want to try to make money selling ebooks on Amazon.

One more thing I'll address before we hit you with these tips. How much money can you expect to make is another question everyone wants to know. Don't plan on getting rich though you never know if your book is a hit gets on the top seller list, gets picked up and reposted on blogs and forums you never know you could strike it big however for most people plan on making some beer money. I currently have two books on the Amazon marketplace and make about $150 a month passively, I don't do much to promote or advertise my books, I could probably make more if I spent more time promoting them.

Without further adoo here's the top 3 tips for making money selling E-Books on Amazon.

1. Pick A Good Niche

What is a niche? A niche is basically your topic area or the subject of your book. If your writing about motorcycles then motorcyclces are your niche. If your writing about stamp collecting, then stamp collecting is your niche. Don't try to go after some hugely popular subject matter. Yes there's probably a big audience but there's also a lot of competition. You want to go after a subject not covered much. If you have an area of expertise or a hobby like painting toy soldiers or something odd like that your much more likely to make money with that than say writing a book about how to ride a motorcycle which is something with alot more competition.

One other thing I'd like to add when speaking about choosing a niche. Don't choose a broad niche, narrow it down as much as possible. For example, if you like motorcylces don't just write a book about motorcycles, there's too much competition. Write a book about buying and selling vintage motorcycle parts. Or if there's a particular bike you like whether it be older Triumph motorcycles or early 90's Suzuki Intruders, write about a smaller subject area.

There's going to be a lot less competition. Granted there's also less interested people out there but there's probably so little information out there about such a small subject area that those interested in that subject are very interested in it and don't often come across books on the subject and are more likely to buy.

2. Have A Good Book Cover & Description

I'm surprised by how many people pour their time, energy and their hearts into writing a great book and then skimp on having a good cover and a good description. Sure you know your book is good but readers don't. Aside from reviews all they have to judge you on is your cover and your description of what the book contains.

For that reason you want to have a cover that jumps out, catches the potential buyers interest, and makes them want to buy the book. As far as the description, again, they don't know what a fantastic book you have awaiting them all they have to judge the content on is the description so why skimp on it. Why take the time to write a great book only to skimp on writing a great description and not have anyone read it.

For book covers if your not skilled in graphic design go to Fiverr and you can get some great professional book covers made for just $5. You're a writer so you should be able to write a good attention getting description but if you're struggling or if you want someone else's "voice" so to speak for the preface or description again you can turn to Fiverr for content writers as well.

3. Take Advantage Of Amazon Promos

Amazon has all types of promos they run. You can join the program where you give your book for free to Amazon Prime members and though you don't get full price you do get paid out of a pool that goes to all who enroll. This can help your book get reviews and recommendations from people who read it for free and tell paying friends about it. This can also potentially help you rise to the best seller list.

Amazon also has some other promos where to kickstart the rollout of your book you can give your book away for free for a few days. Again this can create a buzz and get you some reviews.
