How to Succeed on Youtube in 2017
If you have a New Year's Resolution to start a Youtube Channel in 2017 that's awesome!!! There's never been a better time. Well I take that back, it's always good to be an early adopter so 2006, 2007, 2008, would have been a better time to get started on the Youtube platform.
That said aside from being an early adopter 2017 is probably the best time to be a new Youtuber. In this post were going to tell you why that is, as well as share a few tips in terms of how to be successful on Youtube in 2017.
Why 2017 is Great for New Youtubers
It's no secret Youtube loves it's large popular content creators. Think creators like Pewtie Pie, Phillip Difranco, and other large Youtubers with millions of followers. Youtube displays their channels and videos on many of our home pages. When we watch videos Youtube shows them as a featured video we may want to watch and that in turn sends a lot of traffic and a lot of viewers there way.
More recently however many of these large Youtubers have been complaining that Youtube is broken. They have been saying Youtube isn't sending as many viewers their way. This boils down to two things in my opinion. First off all I think these guys have become so popular and relied on Youtube so much they have kind of slacked on filling out the meta data on their video uploads.
Search engines cannot read or listen to video so we need to use things like titles, tags, and descriptions to tell Youtube what our videos are about. I notice many of the larger creators don't do a very good job of this. Why? Most likely because for years Youtube has sent them so many viewers they didn't need to. Youtube seems to be putting a much heavier emphasis on this and therefore these guys are starting to lose out on views by not doing this.
The larger reason however, seems to be that Youtube is starting to spread the love around. Rather than directing so many viewers to this same pool of extremely large channels, Youtube seems to be featuring some smaller and newer channels from other creators, giving them a chance to find an audience and be discovered. This is in large part why 2017 is such a great time to become a new Youtuber.
So How Do I Succeed on Youtube in 2017?
Unfortunately Youtube isn't extremely upfront about what they are looking for. Understandably so, no company with a search engine is. If they told us exactly what they were looking for people would game the system and rank based on gaming the system and not creating quality content.
That said Youtube, Google, eBay, Amazon, every site with a search engine does give us some clues and best practices in how to work on their platform. In the case of Youtube, things like posting quality content and posting content frequently. Filling out the meta data on your videos such as title, tags, descriptions, making the video file titled something relevant to the video as opposed to just allowing your computer or phone to title the file DSC8329323.
I did a quick search on Google and Youtube to see if I could find any other Youtubers, vloggers, marketers sharing tips and surprisingly I didn't, probably because YT hasn't given us much info recently to go on.
For that reason I decided to make this blog post and also make a Youtube video on this topic. Obviously I don't know the inside secrets to Youtube or what they are looking for, however I can based on my experience and things I've seen make some educated guesses.
If you want to succeed on Youtube in 2017, they are giving you a better chance than ever in the past by being more open to featuring new and smaller channels so now is the time to get started. Take action and start today. The other major thing I see being more important this year than ever is the stuff I previously mentioned about not getting lazy during that last step of uploading the video.
Everything else seems to be the standard Youtube best practices from past years.
